CURRENT SUSPENSIONS

The APU is committed to eradicating the use of performance enhancing drugs from powerlifting in Alberta. As such, all members of the APU, by virtue of membership, are agreeing to submit to periodic drug testing, either at a sanctioned APU/CPU contest, or on a "no notice" out of competition basis. Individuals who receive an anti-doping violation as a member of the APU are not permitted to participate in any APU activities in any manner until the suspension has concluded. This includes attending Sanctioned Competitions as a Coach, Spectator,
Participant, Volunteer, and includes training with Registered Clubs and training with any other Member in good standing with the APU.

In addition, the Prohibited Association rules, as set out by the IPF, come into effect with member suspensions. This means the following:
  • Suspended members cannot coach an APU member, in good standing, in any capacity. This includes, but is not limited to, obtaining training, strategy, technique, nutrition or medical advice; obtaining therapy, treatment or prescriptions; providing any bodily products for analysis
  • Coaches who are also members of the APU cannot coach Suspended  members in any capacity as per the items above

It is the responsibility of APU members to understand who they are coaching, or being coached by, to avoid facing possible suspension as a member of the APU. Prohibited Association violations may result in a suspension of up to twelve (12) months as a member of the APU, which includes being unable participate in sanctioned competitions as a spectator, participant, or volunteer, and includes training or being a Member of an APU Registered Club.
