Weigh-In Process

Written by: Kain Lyon
In an APU competition, weigh-in begins two hours before the start of the competition and lasts at least one-and-a-half hours. If you have trouble making weight and need to re-weigh in be sure to ask the official conducting the weigh-in of the procedure pertaining to that, as they will be able to tell you.

Often the pace of the competition can depend on the timeliness of the weigh-in procedure.  Therefore, athletes need to be as prepared as possible entering the weigh-in so that there are no delays.  Here is a list of DOs and DO NOTs:

Do:

  • Have your first attempts for squat, bench press and deadlift in kilograms and memorized.

  • Bring your APU Membership card and piece of photo ID.

  • Be prepared to strip to your underwear and socks (this is how you must weigh-in).

  • Be prepared to tell referee any special equipment you may require on the competition platform (foot blocks, etc.).

  • Have your squat and bench press rack heights for the competition equipment being used on the platform.  You will need to obtain these numbers prior to the weigh-in.   Typically an official will be standing on the competition platform prior to the weigh-ins to assist new lifters in obtaining their rack heights.

Do Not:

  • Wear multiple layers of clothing.  This will take longer to undress and might cause a potential delay.

  • Wear excessive amount of jewelry.  Weighing-in with these items will make you weigh-in heavier and might cause a potential delay if needed to be removed.

  • Forget your attempt cards in the weigh-in room.  The referee will give you these cards, and you need them to indicate your next attempt following each lift.
